With respect to “memory of water”, Noriko Nagano states: “In the beginning there was no “water”. Was it a cosmic coincidence that the earth, which was a hot mass, was filled with water when a rainy night came? Was it perhaps a miracle intended by something? I went to various places in the world such as Arran Island, Lake Baikal and mountain streams of the Himalayas to sketch, hoping to capture the traces of the earth’s miracles on the screen. However, as I watched the ever-changing flow of water, what I ended up being able to express on the screen was a layer of my own unintentional memory. I do not believe that there is any meaning in the fragments of my memory that seem to disappear into the night of emptiness. However, it would be a great miracle for me if the viewers of my artwork could find new memories of themselves in it.”
